The Festival
Festival Schedule: Thurs (15th) - Fri (16th) - Sat (17th) - Sun (18th) - View all
We hope you’ll join us at the second annual celebration of the Massachusetts Poetry Festival this October 15, 16, 17, and 18, 2009.
This year the Poetry Festival has kick-off events in Amherst, Boston, Salem, Central Massachusetts (Worcester), Southeastern Massachusetts (New Bedford), and of course, Lowell. The bulk of the events are in Lowell — here is a map of all the different event locations in Lowell. You register for (free) tickets to all the events here, or view a day by day schedule here: Thurs (15th), Fri (16th), Sat (17th), Sun (18th). Only Sunday’s events at the Boston Children’s Museum have any cost associated with them; the Museum will simply charge regular admission prices.
Massachusetts is the home to numerous great writers, small presses, literary publications, and poetry groups. Historically, our state has been a center of American poetry, making it the perfect location for a statewide poetry celebration.
The Massachusetts Poetry Festival, founded in conjunction with the Massachusetts Poetry Outreach Project, is an annual festival established to celebrate the array of literary talent throughout the Commonwealth. By bringing together poetry groups from across the state, we aim to present an enriching festival that reflects the spectrum of writing in Massachusetts.
This year’s festival includes readings, workshops, and panel discussions that focus on creating a discourse between writers, educators, and poetry enthusiasts. A small press/magazine fair will showcase several fine publications currently active and provide an opportunity for writers to meet editors and representatives of these publications.
