The Massachusetts Poetry Festival needs volunteers – especially in Lowell on Saturday October 17th as we support 40 different workshops, readings,
performances, and panels in downtown Lowell from 10:45 to Midnight. We depend on volunteers – on that day and before. The Poetry Festival only happens because poets and people who love poetry volunteer and make it happen. It is pretty amazing but we do all this on a shoestring budget – and we can only do it if you will help us. We have over 100 Massachusetts poets participating in the Festival. Now we need another 100 people to volunteer even for one hour or 3 hours. Please sign up to volunteer today.
Here is how you can help us:
- We need volunteers right now to spread the word about the Festival.
- We need you to email all your friends asking that they join you in going to http://www.Masspoetry.org and sign up to reserve their seats.
- We need you to post a sign in your public library – here is one you can download and print.
- We need you to announce it at your school.
- We need you to spread the word in whatever way you can.
We do not have a big budget for advertising – so we need your help to get the word out.

We need volunteers in Lowell – please sign up to volunteer. We need between 80 and 100 volunteers to make sure that people can find their way, to staff the check in table at the Vistor Center, to help set up the chairs, to help with the reception, to put up signs, etc. Please sign up to volunteer by clicking here – please do it now. The first 40 volunteers who sign up and get assignments will get free Poetry Festival T-shirts.
We have a special need for video skilled volunteers. We would like to produce quality audio and video of as many of the events as we can. But to do that we need a crew of volunteers who have good quality video cameras and know how to use them. We need you for the high school poets on Friday, for the college poets on Friday, for the Friday evening event in Lowell, for all the kick off events around the state and for as many of the Saturday events as possible. If you have video skills or can find others who have them click here to volunteer and please check off that box.
Thank you for everything you do for poetry – and please spread the word about the Festival. Without an advertising and promotion budget, we depend on word of mouth — so tell everyone about http://masspoetry.org! You can even follow us on Twitter, where we highlight a different event every day – http://twitter.com/masspoetry
Thanks again – and don’t forget our 7 simultaneous opening events in Boston, Worcester, New Bedford, Salem, Lowell, Amherst and the Berkshires!
